Mark Kamau is an Afro-centric human centered design leader, strategist and practitioner. He is passionate about the role design plays in catalyzing socio-economic change in emerging markets. His varied experience includes award winning technology, supporting over 200 startups across the continent. He also supports leading global corporations and non-profit organizations to realize sustainable impact through their work in emerging markets. He believes everyones deserves a chance to realize their full potential, this ethos drives his passion for designing impactful social and economic solutions for emerging markets.

His varied experiences, personal background and a strong social conscience continue to guide and reinforce his point of view that good design can play a critical role in creating a more equal and just world, where everyone has a chance to fulfill their potential.

He achieves this by tapping into local community knowledge and a participatory design approach that often results in building a contextual, intellectual and innovative bridge, that taps into their collective potential, socially and economically.

Currently, Mark is the founder and executive director of Designing Futures, an afro-centric design studio that partners with different organizations to address complex socio-economic challenges that face emerging markets. He is also the founder and director of Designing African Futures Foundation, a non profit focused on creating social-economic impact through design.

 

He is considered one of the most experienced human centered design practitioners in the continent today.
